Kinship denial

Submitted by Kinship on Sun, 07/27/2014 - 12:01

My wife and I are kinship care givers for our 28 month old nephew since he was 5 days old last month a CUA worker had him removed for false accusations I feel like DHS is bulling us and we can't get any help we love him as our own son and are devastated by this as we are the only family he as even known he also has developmental delays. We cannot afford a lawyer and we do not know where to turn or who can help us. They are trying to prevent us from adopting. And his adoption finalization is next month.

Kinship,

What were the reasons that the child was taken out of your care?

Under the circumstances, it would be best if you got a third party to do an evaluation/investigation of the situation to rehabilitate your credibility with the court.

You definitely need to get an attorney.

Talk to as many attorneys as you can to try to find someone that might be willing to help you. If you can't afford to pay upfront (as most attorneys will require), see if you can work out an arrangement where you either pay over time or you barter for the attorney's service (what do you do for a living? If marketable for a trade, give it a try.).

Another option might be to check with law schools to see if they have a clinic that can help you.
